Snowmobiling in the Terrace area is a super fun and exciting – it’s packed with opportunities for friends and family to get out on their sleds and explore.
Terrace’s location in the spectacular Coastal Mountains of northwestern BC provides the perfect terrain for snowmobiling. From floating across flat vistas to places where you have to climb to find the best views, the Skeena Valley offers loads of options for sledders.
Snowmobiling trails
There are dozens of dedicated snowmobiling trails in the northwest. Most are as close to Terrace (within six kilometres away), while others are up to 50-60 km away. These popular backcountry areas include both tenured and non-tenured terrain for riding
Skeena Valley Snowmobile Association members and friends love sledding at a range of places including Copper Mountain, Anweiler, Ridge, Big Cedar, Sleeping Beauty, and Bolton Ridge.
The fan favourites for a great day sledding, complete with access to warming huts or cabins include Sterling Mountain, South Douglas and Trapper Mountain.
Sterling Mountain
Sterling Mountain is a popular sledding destination for the whole family. Access is good for beginner and advanced riders alike.
The main route is maintained all the way to the tree line and you can even check out the day cabins at Jack's Lake and Sterling Lake along the way. These are not overnight cabins, but a great option for warming up and having a dry spot to eat lunch before heading home.
Firewood for fires is provided but ensure your fire is out before leaving. Please make sure to pack out what you pack in.
South Douglas
South Douglas' main road is also groomed and maintained by Skeena Valley Snowmobile Association right up to its access point. This can be a challenging area to ride and is geared for more experienced snowmobile operators.
The South Douglas also has a wide variety of terrain.
When conditions are right, it boasts lots of deep powder and access to another day use cabin.
Trapper Mountain
Trapper Mountain is also easily accessible and is a popular destination for all sorts of sledders.
Trapper Mountain has a day use cabin maintained by the Skeena Valley Snowmobile Association and is the perfect day trip.
